Former Prosecutor Files for Chapter 7 in Idaho
This week, news sources announced that a former prosecutor from Canyon County, Idaho filed forChapter 7 bankruptcy. The former prosecutor, John Bujak, reported assets at $500,000-$1 million against liabilities of comparable values.
Bujak and his wife, Pepper, listed 22 creditors in their Chapter 7 bankruptcy petition. Some of the creditors include the Idaho State Tax Commission, the Internal Revenue Service and several banks. News sources say the couple does not believe they will have the money to repay creditors.
In September, Bujak resigned from his position after he failed to reimburse the county $302,000 from a contractual dispute. Officials from the county believe the deficit will impact the fiscal budget for 2010.
County Clerk Bill Hurst told a local news source, "All of the taxpayers of Idaho are going to have to pay, and the taxpayers of Canyon County are going to have to pay additional funds, just to investigate and try to collect the money."
Bujak will have until early November to pay restitution. If he does not make payment, the county may take legal action against him.
