Texas Attorney General Announces Foreclosure Proceeding Investigation
This week, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott announced that he will be working with other attorney generals and regulators from 49 other states. The group will partner to investigate improper foreclosure procedures.
The recent effort was announced after Abbott sent letters to 30 of Texas' top mortgage lenders. In the letters, he asked them to stop foreclosures as well as resales fo foreclosed properties in the state. According to Abbott's office, "chief focus will be the accuracy and validity of documents that lenders and servicers used to support foreclosure proceedings."
Throughout the country, mortgage companies have faced much controversy for agents authorizing foreclosures without carefully reviewing documentation. In fact, thousands of electronic documents related to foreclosures were subjected to "Robosigning".
Numerous major financial institutions have halted foreclosure proceedings in the state at this time. Abbott's office said that in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, over 50,000 foreclosure filings have been made this year alone.
