Texas Rangers Sign Major TV Deal Post Bankruptcy
This week, it was announced that the Texas Rangers, a Major League Baseball team, signed a 20 year extension of its TV deal with Fox Sports Southwest. Prior to this recent announcement, much publicity was directed at the team which was sold last month at auction after filing for bankruptcy.
The USA Today newspaper says that the new deal could be worth $3 billion. If that were the case, it would be the highest TV package for a team that does not own a TV channel. However, the Dallas Morning News daily reported that the deal was around $1.5 billion.
Fox spokesman Chris Bellitti said, "The Texas Rangers have been a valued, longtime partner for Fox, and we're pleased that we will continue that relationship with the new ownership group."
Currently, the Rangers are owned by sports attorney Chuck Greenberg and Nolan Ryan. The pair bought the team back in August after the team filed for bankruptcy in May.
