Swimmer's Bankruptcy Lawsuit May Keep Him Out of the Olympics

One young man is fighting to keep his spot on the Olympic team despite the bankruptcy lawsuit that is keeping him in the country. The 24-year-old hopes to join the Olympic swimming team for Australia but is currently having serious legal problems.

While he certainly would not need to raise the funds necessary to travel to the London 2012 games, the terms of his bankruptcy currently do not allow him to leave the country. The financial troubles started three years ago when the young man struck a fellow Olympic-level swimmer. He was given a 14-year suspended sentence and forced to pay $180,000 in damages.

As a result, he was forced to file for bankruptcy in order to just keep afloat financially. The other swimmer's lawyer is furious about the move and stated that it was only a sad effort to prevent the young man from paying his fines.
