5 Million Borrowers are 2 Months Behind on Their Mortgages
A new report issued by ForeclosureListings.com showed surprising numbers of foreclosures from 2010 to 2011.
According to this report nearly 5 million borrowers are at least two months behind on their payments. Due to continued job losses and loans that are worth more than their home's value, 2011 will continue to see a rise in foreclosures. Decreasing home values and more stringent refinancing credit standards will not make it any easier for people to make their payments on time either.
In 2010 banks repossessed more than 1 million homes; financial experts predict that 2011 will see at least 1.2 million homes foreclosed on. Even though there was government assistance available to some to halt or delay foreclosure proceedings, one in 45 U.S. households were filed for foreclosure. This is even after there was a halt on foreclosures when the government discovered the "robo-filings" that plagued many lending agencies across the country.
Now that most banks have been given the thumbs-up to continue eviction processes it looks like the first quarter of 2011 will show another increase in filings.
