Andrew Fastow To Complete Sentence in Halfway House
The man behind the Enron scheme has returned to Houston the week to complete the remainder of his six-year sentence at a halfway house.
According to a federal prison official, Andrew Fastow left the federal prison in Pollock to enter a halfway house in Houston. His family, including wife Lea Weingarten and their two sons, live in Houston as well. Weingarten completed jail time as well - one year - for helping Fastow obtain funds through the Enron scheme.
After years of accounting tricks went undetected, the seventh-largest company in the nation was forced to file for bankruptcy. While accountants had worked hard to conceal billions of dollars worth of company debt, the company collapsed and took with it thousands of jobs, as well as $60 billion in the market value and $2 billion in pension plans.
Fastow pleaded guilty in 2006 for his role in concealing company debt while continuing to pad his own coffers.
