Houston-Galveston Experiences Drop in Bankruptcy Filings
The Houston-Galveston region has seen a serious drop in the number of Chapter 11 bankruptcy and
Chapter 7 bankruptcy cases filed this year. Some attribute this to the area's overall ability to weather the ongoing depressed economy.
A report issued by the Houston Business Journal showed that the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas showed an 11% decrease in Chapter 7 filings when compared to same period the year before. Chapter 13 bankruptcy filings also decreased, by 21%. While these represent a significant decrease in both Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy filings, this shouldn't cover the fact that many people are still forced to consider bankruptcy as a last-ditch option to financial ruin.
