Attorneys Say Bankruptcy Trend Will Continue

Although attorneys in Wisconsin report seeing a decline in personal bankruptcy filings towards the end of the year, most say that this is a short-lived trend.

The general consensus amongst bankruptcy attorneys is that until the issue of joblessness has been dealt with, Chapter 7 bankruptcy filings will continue to keep legal professionals busy.

The first nine months of 2011 saw a 9.5% decrease when compared to the previous year, with most of those falling under Chapter 7 bankruptcy. This is the most popular type of bankruptcy for individuals as it allows them to discharge a majority of their debts. This can include utility bills, credit card balances and medical bills, most of which qualify for discharge.

Across the nation, there was a 10% drop in consumer bankruptcy filings, according to one leading data source.
