Study Shows Foreclosures Can Hurt People's Health

Dealing with foreclosure may not only be a personal and financial hit, but it can also affect your health.

A recent study conducted by doctors at one school of medicine shows that those who were in the process of foreclosure are more likely to neglect their health. Based on a small sample gathered in Philadelphia of 250 people, the researchers discovered that 32 percent had missed recent doctors' appointments. In addition, 48 percent had not filled required prescriptions, which could lead to a serious decline in health.

A similar study revealed that individuals living in areas of high foreclosure rates, such as California, Arizona and New Jersey were more likely to be hospitalized for health problems including heart failure, diabetes and high blood pressure.

In addition to physical health, mental health declined as well. One-third of the Philadelphia study group reported being depressed, while the second study showed an increase in suicide attempts in high-foreclosure areas.

If you are facing foreclosure, try to avoid further stress by taking the time to enlist the services of a South Texas bankruptcy lawyer who can help through this contentious time. Don't wait a minute longer, contact a South Texas foreclosure attorney from our law office now.
